Mirus and ASP agree to work together to create pathways to provide new opportunities for skilled people in the East

Like any other high-technology industry, the Aviation business faces the potential of significant skills shortages in years to come. With the number of aircraft in service set to double by 2030 and airport expansion plans under negotiation, the requirement for skilled people to support the industry will be unprecedented. Mirus and ASP have agreed to collaborate to inspire people to enter this vital area of the industry and connect them with the jobs in this high-technology, class-leading company.

Mirus Aircraft Seating is a world-class aircraft seat design and manufacturing company based in Hingham, Norfolk. Shortly to enter full production and with its first multi-million pound order for a Far East airline in the bag, Mirus needs to attract skilled people to support its business growth.

Aviation Skills Partnership (ASP) was established in 2013 to identify, create, develop and implement the skills solutions that the aviation industry needs, in partnership with training organisations, employers, educators, and potential new or existing employees. ASP is dedicated to improving career opportunities across the six areas of aviation (Pilot, Air Traffic Control, Airport Operations, Operations & Crewing, Cabin Crew, and Engineering & Maintenance).

The joint activities that will be delivered via this partnership are designed to create a skilled and motivated workforce. The initiative involves industry based activities where 11-19 year olds can develop personal skills and raise their awareness of careers available, at the same time enabling Mirus to develop a structured approach to their talent pipeline.

Ben McGuire, Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer at Mirus Aircraft Seating said “This is an excellent opportunity to work closely with a leading Aviation Industry Partner and connect our prospective employees to ASP’s extensive range of programmes. We see this relationship as a significant step towards achieving our ambition of inspiring and bringing up the next generation of Aircraft Seating Engineers & Specialists.”

Simon Witts, Founder & Chief Executive at ASP said, “We are delighted to be partnering with Mirus Aircraft Seating. This will enable us to work together on a wide range of programmes that will help young people achieve their dream of a career in aviation and in this excellent organisation. We hope, through this partnership to also expand further the range of training offered via the International Aviation Academy at Norwich, opening in April 2017”
